Superbird C

 1997-036A


Spuerbird C was built by Hughes HSC/El Segundo for SCC (Space Communications Corp)/Tokyo. The HS-601 satellite was launched in 1997 by ILS and the USAF 3 SLS on an Atlas 2AS into a super-synchronous transfer orbit. Launch mass was 3130 kg. Superbird C was the first SCC satellite to provide international broadcasting services. Hughes' DirecTV subsidiary joined up with SCC as a service provider.
