This is loosely based on statuscrawler’s Wanted but Claire works with the good guys here.
Title: The Eagle Remembers.
Setting: November-December 1992,India and later Kazakhstan.
Ships: Massie Block/Griffin Hastings (past),Massie Block/Cam Fisher,Claire Lyons/Layne Abeley,Kristen Gregory/Derrick “Derrington” Harrington.
Premise: Not quite a full year has elapsed since Christmas 1991,and the great nations of the world have convened a global conference in New Delhi (because reasons) - a sort of latter-day Yalta or Potsdam conference to chart the course of the post-Cold War world. Al Gore was recently elected POTUS alongside some moderate Democrat (Vander Jagt? Nunn? Sarbanes? Kerrey?) and he sends his presumptive Secretary of State nominee,Len Rivera,former US rep for (some NY district or other) to be the US’ representative to this conference. On final into the New Delhi airport,however,someone with a SAM shoots down Rivera’s plane,killing all aboard (no Clique characters on it besides Len,tho).
Enter the Eagle’s Gaze Protective Society (hereafter EGPS),my equivalent of the BPS-6 from Wanted. Led by Viet vet Griffin Hastings,one of the best in the biz,the EGPS (est.1983) is an organization even the most blatant of terror groups fears,because when they fight,they always win. Hastings’ ex and deputy,Massie Fisher,is the only woman in the group and probably the most feared of all (her father William used to be the Secretary of Defense - it’s rumored he bankrolls the EGPS).
I didn’t write out a full outline when I came up with this a few months ago but here’s what I had:
- The EGPS learns from a disgruntled CIA plant (a female agent - I was thinking Carrie Randolph) that Smersh was behind the attack on Len’s plane - they’re out to reestablish a rump USSR in Central Asia
- In a parallel plot,Kristen is an astronaut who’s about to fly on the last DoD mission of the Shuttle (OTL STS-53, dunno what it’d be here),and a domestic terror group is plotting to sabotage the launch - EGPS’ domestic division,led by male!Dylan Marvil,is assigned to take out this threat
- Smersh has a splinter group from EGPS,led by a minor character from Clique canon (I was thinking Kemp Hurley might be a good fit for this role). Upon the foiling of the New Delhi plot and the end of that arc (I didn’t have anything worked out for that),they make a last ditch attempt to muddy things up by shooting down the launch of a “super-RORSAT” reconsat from Baikonur on a Soyuz rocket - Massie personally takes them out with Cam and Claire’s assistance.
Aaron in Westchester: A Character Study

Time: February of an unstated year in the 2000s
Place: Westchester County
Ships: potential Aaron Rose/Kristen Gregory, Aaron Rose & Layne Abeley (after he discovers that they’re second cousins)
Premise: So there’s a bit in the fourth Gossip Girl book,when Blair’s books-only stepbrother Aaron Rose and Serena van der Woodsen are dating,where he basically hides out in Scarsdale with some of his emo pals. Here he decides not to return to NYC because while he loves his dad,Cyrus Rose is overbearing even if he means well,Eleanor Waldorf views him more as a thing to be put on display than a real person,and Blair is constantly ticked off at him.
Meanwhile,it’s the winter of the Pretty Committee’s 8th grade year at OCD. Massie’s left for England,Alicia became the alpha but then quietly abolished the rankings because she’s nice now,and she’s tentatively elevated Olivia and another girl (Becca Wilder?) to the PC.
Outline (so far as I’ve got one):
- Aaron takes a walk one day to clear up his mind for new music ideas:somehow he ends up at the Westchester Mall and decides to have some lunch
- He sits a table or two down from the Pretty Committee at the food court,notices them,Dylan decides to bridge the gap and make conversation with him
- A long expositional conversation follows with Aaron telling his story and Claire telling that of the PC

Mo shrugged a Gallic shrug as Kelly adjusted herself on the steps. " I respect Peter Hepburn. I respect his vision. And I respect his courage to continue to do the kind of work he knows will never bring him the big money or great fame he so desires. It's a strange fortune,being someone like him."
"But he seems to live so well - he spends so much *and* he knows Shirley MacLaine. I'd give anything to know her."
This earned her a scoff from Mo. "My dear Kelly,Peter's money's just the last scraps of a niggardly inheritance. His mother Jane was a suspicious woman. She left them - him and Lisabeth - what I call a 'distrust' fund. I'm glad you never met her: she was a harridan and a harpy to the core. It turned out with her that knowing all the major stars and producers of around 1947 was no substitute for actual parenting."
He paused briefly to relight his cigarette. "I daresay Lisabeth's broken that cycle,as you may have observed. The instant she could she cut Jane off-" - he snapped his fingers - "just like that,made her live in a kind of dower house at the back end of the estate:it's a cabana now. She died there of alcoholism on a warm night in '76: I was the last to see her alive."
"Go on", an intrigued Kelly replied,scanning the room for a sign of Tom.
"Howard was a friend of a friend of mine from Northwestern University:he'd gotten out to LA some years before I did and he took me on as more or less the family doctor.

And why should Jackie worry? Her family had been practically Niskayuna royalty since before either Kendra or William were born. The Dyers lived in a mansion at the west end of Nisky,an 8,200 square footer with a Victorian aesthetic,three living rooms,and a courtyard at the back like at Dana’s home. While Massie's own mansion was big,it at least resembled a regular house:the same could nawt be said for the Dyer monstrosity.
But then a lot of Nisky girls and guys live like that,don't they?, she thought. We Clifton Park people like our luxuries,but we like them understated:Nisky kids tend to go all out.

It was great,Snake. My Uncle Will and Aunt Jenny came in from Edmonton,and I hadn't seen them in six years. My cousin Caroline and her husband Martin were there too.

Yep,she's had her baby since.
A boy or a girl?
A girl,in August. Her name's Eleanor but everyone calls her Ellie. She's sooooo cute.
I never knew Caitlin Ryan to be the coo-over-a-baby type.
If it's cute I'm excited about it,Snake. So I heard you asking Derek and Tessa what the big secret was about Raditch and Keenlyside,and I might as well tell you. The school's kinda raising a cadet unit.
A Cadets Canada unit?
Well,it's not,like,mandatory,and it'll be more of a citizenship/community service-focused unit with a bit of military on the side,but yeah,it's happening.
Is it an army,sea,or air cadet unit?
All three as I understand,but as I said military isn't the biggest focus.

"Whoo-whoo", Erica insisted painfully as her training rifle clattered to the floor. Heather rushed to her twin's side,holding Erica in a bridal kind of position. "Major Thompson?"
Ev clattered up to them,examined Erica with her eyes,and gave Heather The Look. "I think she's about to go into labour."
As if to accentuate her statement,a thin trickle of water was pooling on the floor around them:already Simon's boots were damp.
"St.Michael's Hospital is fifteen minutes away - Walfish,can you get the jeep?"
"On it", he replied in a confident tone,but Ev wasn't finished. "This girl is Leo Farrell's granddaughter,Walfish - see if you can't get some spare cars and bikes from the motor pool as well,'cause given their family money they have some importance here so we might as well make it a motorcade. Training's done for tonight - we're all accompanying Erica to the hospital. On the bounce,cadets!"
So it was that fourteen minutes later at 8:47,following some of the most frantic sessions of post-training cleanup the 25th had endured yet,a veritable caravan of cars and bikes roared out of the back end of Fort York Armoury into the gathering night,bound for St Michael's Hospital,with a heavily pregnant Erica Farrell at the literal and symbolic center of it all.

Oh,I get it,you're talking of intermarriage. That doesn't happen all that much with our own young suburban heirs and heiresses,but it has happened before and likely'll happen again. The trends point,as elsewhere,to love matches: any intermarriage of our kids will be usually started wth "nudges" on the parental part,like party invites or preferred seating at club events and such.
Any potential examples with Claire's peers?
Cam Fisher may be only 12 and not his family's heir,but he'll be getting his own sizable inheritance and he's handsome enough that girls are already taking an interest in him.
Who,besides my Claire?
Kristen Gregory's caught his eye more than once,they used to be on the same swim team. Layne Abeley's a good friend of his,I think Allie-Rose Singer was his first kiss,his family lives next door to the Bassetts so maybe Krista Bassett's interested in him,I wouldn't know. But if you asked Jaclyn Ryan,she'd tell you her Olivia's the girl for Cam.
Really?
She and Angie have been nudging them together for a couple years now. Olivia'll be getting a pretty good inheritance as well even though she's not the Ryan heir and I guess what their moms are trying to do is "pair our spares". I mean,why not do something like that,deed them a nice mansion or mini-mansion somewhere like here,Saratoga,Westchester or the Philadelphia Main Line or someplace,give them a relatively low-pressure luxurious lifestyle,maybe with him doing sports and her teaching or being a professional fashionista or something? Pretty ideal life if you ask me.

The CIC? I don't follow,Der. What does a combat information center have to do with you and Massie's wedding?
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception,dummy! The "mother church" of the whole freakin' diocese of Albany! That's how high the Blakes aim.

Artyr mab Baradoc (known as Utr Pendraig,”the great dragon-like lord”) mab Macsen, Lord of the War-Chiefs of the Brythonic folk (472-504), King of Dumnonia and High Lord of Loegria from 465 to 504, victorious in many battles, merciful and beneficent in peace. He wed Findabair daughter of Donnchadh of the Venedoti.
Medrawd mab Llud mab Gwrhyr, King of Dumnonia from 504 to 528, maternal nephew of Artyr as the son of Anna his sister. There is a long-propagated,scurrilous rumor that he came to the crown by killing Artyr but this is untrue. Artyr died in battle against Modredus,a Saxon lord who claimed the sub-Thamesian lands for his own,and he and Medrawd were conflated by later authors. Artyr had already named Medrawd his heir around 490 owing to his infertility.
In 506,two years after Artyr fell in battle against Modredus the Saxon and his nephew Medrawd came to the Dumnonian throne,Findabair his wife was wedded to Clothar,the son of Panta the Eorl of Benoic,whom men called “Lance” or “the Lancer”. Her cousin Bedwyr,the companion of Artyr,who at the last had committed his king’s sword to the sacred lakes,stood in place of her long dead father Donnchadh. Of Artyr’s other realms,he had had the lordship of Dyfed,and this Medrawd committed to Gareth his brother,and of Longtain in Loegria which Gwalhauet the tall prince was given as wergild because Brannor his father was killed in the wars….(Strange’s note:here the account is fragmented)……Ghilleadh,that most innocent of Artyr’s companions,was brought to Sarras in the south of Gaul for the healing of his great hurt,and there he experienced a vision of the One True God and His angels,and at Easter in the year of Christ 497 he passed from this world,and Peredur his kinsman had him buried in the gardens. And Peredur had enough grief that one year later to the day he willingly surrendered his own life to God,and to Bors alone it was left to return to his own country…..

"Anna!", she hissed, "Claire and Landon need your help to coordinate some details with the Wolferts Roost servers. I'll have my mom take over here." Anna accepted and moved off to where Claire,Landon,and Strawberry McAdams stood in a knot by the St.George Chapel. "What's the issue,guys?"
"The issue",Strawberry snapped,"is that the dessert waiter's mother just died. He's named a stand-in but the stand-in's a newbie who's way more comfortable on drinks duty,and we think you could do it. You interned in food preparation at the Lake George Club as a teen,didn’t you?”
