Orion EFT-1

 2014-076A

Exploration Flight Test of Orion on Delta 4, two orbits. SV is assembled at Michoud, outfitted at LM/OCF-KSC and then tested at LM/Denver. The flight is operated by LM Space Systems/Denver, rather than by NASA.

Flight capsule, dummy SM and test fairings. SM fairings provide structural strength during stage 1 burn and are jettisoned during the stage 2 burn to save mass.

Mass is 21000 kg including SM and LAS; 8600 kg CM at landing. CM+LAS at lanch 17000 kg. LAS motor is 3464 kg, with 1780 kN thrust. LAS ACS motor is 760 kg. LAS jettison motor is 410 kg, giving a lower limit of 4650 kg to LAS and upper limit of 12350 kg to the CM; infer service module is about 2650 kg. Orion to stage adapter connects to DCSS. Fairings 450 kg x 3.
