Telesat Canada's Anik C-2 was launched from Challenger in 1983. It provided regional coverage with spot beams on southern Canada. It was bought by Paracomsat in 1993 to provide comsat service to Argentina. It also provided service to the South Pole. In 1997 the satellite was returned to Canadian service.

The KENNEN code name was changed to CRYSTAL in early 1982. The fifth CRYSTAL, satellite 5505, was launched on 1982 Nov 17 on the last Titan 3D. The KH-11 was placed in an early afternoon sun-synchronous orbit, 1300 LTDN (the east plane).

Intelsat 505

The Intelsat V F-5 satellite was the first to carry a Maritime Communications System L-band transponder for INMARSAT, in addition to the standard C and Ku band payload. Intelsat 505 became the Indian Ocean Primary satellite for INTELSAT, while MCS-A became the Indian Ocean Primary for INMARSAT.

Anik C3

Telesat Canada's Anik C series of satellites used the HS-376 bus and carried Ku-band transponders. They were complemented by the Anik D series of C-band satellites. The three satellites built were launched in reverse order. Anik C-3 was launched by a PAM-D stage from the Shuttle Columbia on its fifth mission in Nov 1982.

The satellite was positioned over the Indian Ocean. The post launch report says that the apogee burn was on Jan 7; counting this as US local time means that it could be any of the first three apogees. Although the very first apogee is near the intended location, burn at first apogee would be very unusual for a 1970s Atlas Centaur launch. I therefore speculatively adopt a third apogee AKM firing.

UHF F/O F7 was launched on 1996 Jul 25 by Atlas 2; it was the last of the Block II UHF F/O satellites. It was placed in a subsynchronous transfer orbit by the Centaur stage, and between Jul 27 and Jul 29 made its first apogee burn to raise its orbit.

The payload was the first in the UHF series to use advanced multi-chip modules to increase the EHF capacity,replacing the SHF payload.

Mass is 1360 kg BOL, 3019 kg launch; span is 18.3 m.
