Launch by Ariane 5 in 2000; the first of the new Insat 3 series. Mass 2070 kg launch 970 kg dry, 1.9 x 1.7 x 1.7 m with 14.7m span.. Data, telephone and broadcast services for India. Control from Insat MCF, Hassan.

The Ariane 5 EPC has an apogee around 200 km and reenters over the Galapagos.

Insat 3B was colocated with Insat 2E at 83E.
