QuetzSat SRL de CV was created to obtain a Mexican 77W orbital slot. Joint venture of SES Satellite Leasing (UK) and Grupo Medcom/Mexico. 5514 kg wet, 2472 kg dry (NK1111-43) Ku band satellite on SS/L 1300, owned by SES and leased to Echostar, operating under a UK licence. It was originally to be registered as a UK object, but eventually was registered with the UN by Mexico.
The satellite was parked at 67.1W for a year for tests, moved to 61.5W for Echostar use replacing E15 pending launch of Echostar 16, and moved to 77W in early 2013.
