SOHO

The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory was launched on 1995 Dec 2. The satellite was built by Matra Marconi Space for ESA, which managed the SOHO project in collaboration with NASA. It is 3.65m long, 3.65m wide and has a mass of 1864 kg (ESA web page) or 1875 kg (AWST). SOHO, together with CLUSTER, formed part of the Cornerstone 1 (CS1) mission, the first element of the Horizon 2000 program to be launched.

SOHO was the second L1 mission and entered a counterclockwise (Class 2) halo orbit of radius 600000 km around the Earth-Sun L1 point 1.5 Mkm from the Earth. (ISEE had used a clockwise, Class 1, orbit).

In Jun 1998, SOHO went out of control during a momentum management maneuver. Errors in commanding the satellite meant that the emergency sun re-acquisition procedure failed and contact was lost. Goldstone radar detected the spacecraft a few weeks later, and intermittent contact was restored on Aug 4.

145 kg of fuel remained in mid-1999; original loading was 240 kg meaning the dry mass is 1624 kg. A later report gave 1863 kg full with 251 kg prop.

NEOSSat

Near Earth Object Surveillance Satellite, CSA/DRDC using CSA/Dynacon MMMB multimission microsat bus to survey asteroids down to V=20.

The NESS mission surveys NEOs at solar elongation 45 to 55 deg and ecliptic latitude |b|<40 deg.

The HEOSS mission surveys resident space objects (RSOs) to 13.5 mag at altitude above 15000 km.

50 kg, 15 cm telescope; derived from MOST. Size 1.8 x 0.4 x0.8m.

The spacecraft software was delivered behind schedule; it was only in 2014 Jun that the software was improved enough to take good quality images, and tracking was still unable to meet mission needs.

STS-130 (Endeavour)

Flight 20A with RSRM 109 and ET 134. Launch mass 121322 kg, landing 91033 kg. Cargo Node 3 13512 kg , 1630 kg Cupola (total 15142 kg) MD 903 kg up, 818 kg down, 507 kg water/O2 up. 343 kg ISP cargo (included in NOD3)

Pre MR - 15142 kg PLB transfer, 902 up 830 down, 508 kg cons.

Carry up 3004 (Behnken), M3005 (Patrick). Down with 3004 and 3018 (Behnken).

EV1 is Behnken, EV2 is Patrick.

Original plan was Behnken 3004, Patrick 3005 for EVA 1-3. In fact,

Pre EVA1: 3004 unserviceable. 3018 resized. EVA1: Behnken 3018 Patrick 3005 Pre EVA2: 3005 suspect, Resize 3004 and replace power harness EVA2: Behnken 3018 Patrick 3004 Pre EVA3: 3005 cleared as OK, 3018 suspect EVA3: Behnken 3005 Patrick 3004 Post EVA3: Resize 3018 for Behnken for trip home.

New plan: 3005? Patrick 3018 Behnken. 3018 was in Columbus. 3005 was in EDDA. Was going to use 3004, transfer flight patch and stripes to 3018 3004 will be temp stow, resized after EVA3 for return home.

3005 in FWD EDDA for Patrick 3018 in AFT EDDA for Behnken.

After fan problems on EVA1, 3005 was replaced by 3004 after some further maintenance.

Planned spacewalks:

EVA-1 will prep the unberthed Node 3 with removal of covers and attachment of cables.

EVA-2 will see Node 3 outfitting.

EVA-3 will see outfitting of Node 3 and Cupola.

NASA 911 is slated for the ferry role.

Docking was on Feb 10. The vehicles continued oscillating for longer than normal and docking ring retraction was delayed. Docked mass is 458000 kg.

Node 3 was installed on Node 1 port.
