Odin

 2001-007A

SSC's Odin astronomy satellite will fly on an STC-Komplex Start-1 in 1998 from Svobodny.

Odin has a dual mission to study the interstellar medium and aeronomy. The astronomy mission involves 500 GHz and 119 GHz observations of molecular clouds and other sources. The aeronomy part studies the stratosphere and mesosphere, scanning the earth limb from 15 to 120 km. It will study the ozone layer.

Mass is 250 kg; size box + plate + antenna 2.0m h 3.8m span 1.1m packed dia. 1800 LT SSO. The spacecraft has four solar manels mounted on the aft sunshade. Odin is built by SSC. SSC reports to SNSB (Swedish National Space Board).

DS stage remained attached to St 4?

The astronomy part of the mission ended in spring 2007. In 2008 Odin's mission was extended again as it continued climate change studies.

Rassvet

 2010-019

MIM-1 (SGM) Maliy Issledovatelskiy Modul-1/Stikovochno-gruzovoi modul (Mini Research Module/Docking and Cargo Module) is built under contract to NASA. Mass 7900 kg, size 6.6m long 2.4m dia.

Rassvet itself is 4780 kg empty plus 1400 kg of US cargo, total 6180 kg. With the external material of 1720 kg the laucnh package is 7900 kg.

Per STS-132 PK, mass is 8015 kg loaded, 5075 kg empty so 2940 kg cargo. PK calls out 1392 kg ISS supplies and 1310 kg EJ/PWP/AL/Rad (so 238 kg missing). But other data gives 1720 kg for EJ/PWP/AL/Rad which would imply 1220 kg ISS supplies.

Launch by STS-132/ULF-4, install at Zarya nadir.

1400 kg US cargo inside, 1800 kg cargo outside.

Rassvet MIM-1 is a modified stretched Soyuz BO?

521GK.

Payload:

  • MLM airlock 900 kg

  • MLM radiator 570 kg

  • ERA spare elbow joint (EJ) 150 kg

  • PWP, Portable Work Post, ERA workstation 100 kg
