Telstar 12

Orion 2 is a SS/L FS-1300 bus with a mass of 3800 kg and 10 kW power. SS/L replaced MMS as contractor in summer 1998 after Orion Satellite became Loral Orion. The Eurostar 3000 spacecraft formerly prepared as Orion 2 will become a Eutelsat ground spare. Position was to be 12 W. On orbit test at 15W. At launch, the 12W position was unavailable and Orion 2 was waiting for a legal slot; it was eventaully put at 15W. Eutelsat moved IF5 from the 14.8W slot to make room.

Launch mass 3787 kg, dry mass 1560 kg. Size is 3.1 x 2.2 x 2.4 m, 31m span.

The satellite was renamed Telstar 12 a month after launch.
