Vehicle 1 in the Block 2 series was orbited on 1965 Sep 10, using a Thor Burner 1 with an FW4 upper stage. It operated on its primary mission for 341 days. The satellite carried a 1.3cm video camera, the medium resolution `C' IR camera system with 16 sensors in the 0.2-5 micron band and the 5-30 micron bands, and a high resolution radiometer (HRR) in the 7-14 micron bands.
