DMSP 9532

 1974-063A

DMSP 9532 was the first of three Block 5C satellites. Block 5C F-1 was launched on 1974 Aug 9 by Thor Burner 2A from Vandenberg into a 1900LT dawn-dusk orbit. The new satellite had a vertical temperature profile radiometer in addition to the main scanning radiometer instrument. The 195 kg satellite was a tapered polyhedron 1.64m high and 1.31m in diameter; it was 3-axis stabilized and powered by body-mounted solar cells. It introduced an independent roll sensor (IRS) for attitude reconstruction in case of primary sensor failure.
