1981-012A
ETS-4 was the third ETS to be launched and was named Kiku-3 once launched into a geostationary transfer orbit by the N-II test vehicle in Feb 1981. The satellite carried communications test equipment and a dummy ballast apogee kick motor, as well as instrumentation to monitor launch vehicle performance. It was built by Mitsubishi. The 650 kg, 2.1m dia 2.8m high cylindrical satellite had a design life of 3 months.
