The EPE-D (Energetic Particles Explorer D, S-003C) payload was the last in the EPE series. It was launched at 0900 on 1964 Dec 21, and at 0912 it entered a 456.26 min, 316 x 26191 km x 20.1 deg orbit. EPE-D's on-orbit name was Explorer XXVI. Explorer XXVI transmitted until 1967 May 21.
Mass 46 kg, size 0.43m high, 0.70m dia, 0.86m mag boom.
The satellite was lost in 1967 but recovered in 1971 by radar tracking as unidentified object 1971-00B, and the final stage was cataloged at that time. Another piece was cataloged as 1964-86D in 1972 but a decay note was issued at once; this was probably an erroneous duplicate entry. The despin weights have not been cataloged.
