Progress M1-1

 2000-005A

11F615A55 No. 250,the first Progress M1 enhanced cargo ferry was launched from Baikonur on Feb 1. Spacecraft 11F615A55 No. 250 took off from area 1 at 5-GIK (Baikonur) at 0647 UTC. The original Progress, 7K-TG or 11F615A15 (the A15 mod of the 11F615 Soyuz class vehicle) was first launched in 1978. The first 7K-TGM or 11F615A55, Progress M, was launched in 1989 and had improved onboard systems. The Progress M1 (probably 7K-TGM1) modification of the A55 variant was developed for the ISS. (11F615A55 is possibly also known as 11F655). The DO is now entirely for fuel with 8 prop tanks holding a mass of 1695 kg instead of 4 tanks holding 845 kg; instead of two 210 kg water tanks, water is carried in the cargo module. It was expected that the Shuttle would bring water to the Station, so the Progress M1 could have a heavier load of fuel. After the loss of Columbia the need for water deliveries resumed and flights returned to the older Progress M model.
