PT Indosat Tbk satellite, Thales Alenia Space (TAS-F) Spacebus 4000B3 with 24 C-band, 11 extended C-band and 5 Ku-band. Launch mass 4100 kg. To replace Palapa C2. Launch by CZ-3B.

Satelindo was acquired by Indosat in 2003; Indosat became the Palapa operator.

The CZ-3B third stage failed during its second burn leaving Palapa D in a low transfer orbit. The second burn went its planned full duration but one of the two third stage engines delivered lower than expected thrust. The payload was able to achieve operational orbit.
