The 730 kg PAMELA experiment mounted on the spacecraft is a magnetic spectrometer which detects cosmic ray antiparticles, including 80 MeV - 190 GeV antiprotons and 50 MeV - 270 GeV positrons.
Payload operated by NTs OMZ, Moscow (NTSOMZ).
