Chollian

COMS, KARI's first multi-function geosat, built by EADS Astrium using Eurostar E3000. Carries experimental comms, oceaongraphy and meteorology payloads. 2461 kg at launch. Will be at 128.3 E.

COMS is the Communications, Oceanography and Meteorology Satellite. It was named

Clairvoyance, which may be transliterated 'Cheonlian' but which the Koreans render as 'Chollian' in English.

2.6 x 1.8 x 2.8m box + 1 panel. 17.2m span. Other side from panel has radiant cooler for MI.

Launch 2009 Ariane 5 CSG.

  • Weather data dissemination payload; L-band rx/S-band tx
