2011-061A
NPOESS Preparatory Project. NPP is managed by GSFC until 3 months after launch; then NOAA JPSS program at Suitland operated until 2013 when NOAA normal ops took over.
Box + panel 3.6m long 1.4m wide. 2128 kg full 1400? dry. Launch by Delta 7920-10 from Vandenberg. 824 km SSO, 1030 LT SSO.
NPP is a Ball BCP-2000 satellite. The satellite was named Suomi NPP after Verner Suomi (1915-1995, space meteorology pioneer) in Jan 2012, and NPP was recast as National Polar-orbiting Partnership.
Control fromn NOAA/Suitland.
The ELaNa-III mission will deploy cubesats from 3 PPODs on the Delta stage. P-POD 1 will have M-Cubed, E1P/2, and AubieSat-1 P-POD 2 will have RAX 2 P-POD 3 will have DICE 1/DICE 2 ELaNa - educational launch of nanosatellites
Combines capability of Aqua and Aura upgraded for operational weather forecasting.
