Chang’e-5T1

 2014-065A

The Chang'e-5 test flight (CE5-T1) involves a recoverable capsule which appears to be a scaled Shenzhou descent module, about 1.4m high 1.4m dia with mass of 335 kg, size 1.258m dia 1.236m high. L/D 0.2 and pulls up to 7g in entry. 12 RCS engines (20 and 5N) Mass at landing 310 kg. Overall envelope 3.2m dia (envelope less than 3.65m) 4.22m high, less than 2450 kg of which 2115 kg for SM including 1065 kg of propellant, with solar panel power 1.6 kW and 490N engine. SM separates at 0.6m/s.

TPS mass was 122 kg, structural mass 182 kg - compared to Shenzhou 580 and 1300 kg.

Launch by CZ-3C/G2. Landing in Huofutan north of Hohhot.

Initial orbit: 209 x 314000 km; then -1600 x 366027 x 30.66 Post encounter: 80425 x 423484 x 49.94 40 min before sep, capsule pointed backwards, at 30 deg to SC inverse velocity vector (in orb plane, towards Earth). 10 min before sep, capsule is on internal power.

Reentry traj 10.66 km/s at 120 km, -5.8 deg, inclination 45 +- 0.1 deg., reentry range 5600-7100 km. Post sep evasion burn, perigee 137 km or more.

Service module will head to EML2. Tests of propgrammable 'system on chip' control computer, small star sensor, compact camera, GPS/Glonass receiver for high orbit experiment. 81 hour translunar phase, 32 hour circumlunar (Lunar SOI) phase.
