1967-046A
The Earth orbital mission of Kosmos-159 remained mysterious to Western observers for many years, and it was often assumed to be related to the Soyuz or L-1 programs. In the 1990s it was suggested that Kosmos-159 was actually a Luna space probe of the Luna-12 type, E-6LS No. 111, modified to serve as a test of the N-1/L-3 deep space communications and tracking network. The E-6LF cameras were replaced by experimental equipment for the N-1/L-3 program, including comms equipment from the LOK.
