Beidou 6

On Apr 14 China launched the second "second generation" ('erdai') Beidou navigation satellite, COMPASS-G2 or 'er ke Beidou Daohang Weixing' using the CZ-3C (Chang Zheng sanhao bing) launch vehicle. The satellite was initially placed in geostationary transfer orbit; by Apr 29 it was apparently station in geostationary orbit, with no intermediate tracking available. However, the satellite appears never to have made stationkeeping maneuvers and slowly drifted off station. On 2010 Sep 8 its orbital period was adjusted to move it further out of synchroncity.

The first four Beidou were called 'Beidou Daohang Shiyan Weixing', or Beidou Navigation Test Satellite; the most recent two are the operational 'Beidou Daohang Weixing'.

Navstar 49

GPS IIR-20 (IIRM-7) is SVN 49 (PRN 1) in slot B2, replacing PRN 30. Mass 2059 kg at launch.

SVN 49 carries the first L5 payload for civil signals, to reserve the band for the later IIF satellites ahead of an ITU deadline. The payload caused interference with the main L1 and L2 signals and this led to the satellite's early retirement in 2011.

Telstar 12

Orion 2 is a SS/L FS-1300 bus with a mass of 3800 kg and 10 kW power. SS/L replaced MMS as contractor in summer 1998 after Orion Satellite became Loral Orion. The Eurostar 3000 spacecraft formerly prepared as Orion 2 will become a Eutelsat ground spare. Position was to be 12 W. On orbit test at 15W. At launch, the 12W position was unavailable and Orion 2 was waiting for a legal slot; it was eventaully put at 15W. Eutelsat moved IF5 from the 14.8W slot to make room.

Launch mass 3787 kg, dry mass 1560 kg. Size is 3.1 x 2.2 x 2.4 m, 31m span.

The satellite was renamed Telstar 12 a month after launch.

Orbcomm 2014

2014 saw the first multiple launch of the second generation Orbcomms on a Falcon 9 rocket, with 6 spacecraft ejected from a dual ESPA ring. The satellites were SC3, 4, 6, 11, 7, 9 (also called FM103, 104, 106, 111, 107, 109). Total mass 1032 kg. The ESPA rings have 4 slots each, so two mass dummy spacecraft were also carried but not ejected.

Launch mass 20235 kg (ATV blog; 20060 kg PK page 7, 19887 kg PK page 2 plus 365 kg payload adapter), 9778 kg dry. However, mission report mass in free flight quoted as 20193.7 kg. Size 10.3m long 4.5m dia 22.3m span.

The cargo mass is 4105 kg fluid and 2479 kg dry for a total of 6584 kg. It includes a spare 80 kg Columbus water pump, the FASES emulsion experiment, a 3D printed toolbox, a Biolab microscope, a Columbus cooling servicer. The fluid is 860 kg of Zvezda prop, 564 kg of water, 100 kg of air/O2, and 2580 kg of prop for orbit maintenance.

Launch mass 20194 kg, reduced to 19831 kg after 11 kg of prop use - so really launch mass 19844 kg with 350 kg launch adapter. Prior to docking (report AE013) with 213 kg used, mass was 19630 kg. After undocking 16587 kg. At deorbit, 16309 kg?

As of Jul 5, 909 kg prop was used.

As of Sep 24, trash 1238 kg added; 1246 kg used, 2236 kg prop remained.
