1976-016A
The final Block 5C satellite, 11534, was launched on 1976 Feb 19, but the Thor booster didn’t provide enough velocity and the Burner 2A stages couldn’t make up the difference. The DMSP and the Star 26 entered a 90 x 355 km orbit but reentered after a few hours. The DMSP sensor history implies that the engine had improperly loaded fuel and another declassified DMSP history confirms that incorrect mass-to-propellant calculations caused the failure.
