Foton 10

 1995-006A

Foton 34KS No. 10 was launched on 1995 Feb 16 at 1740 UT. The spacecraft had a mass of 6300 kg, including a 2250 kg cabin reused from Foton 9. (Another source gave 5986 kg). It carried materials processing experiments jointly managed by TsSKB and Germany's Kayser-Threde, as well as French and ESA biological experiments. On Mar 3 at 0834:30, the satellite landed safely 135 km SE of Orenburg, Russia at 51 18 N, 57 12 E. However, a helicopter transporting the satellite back to Orenburg for deintegration later that day ran into a storm which forced them to release the Foton capsule suspended below them; the Foton plummeted 100m to the ground.
