The first ISRO satellite was Aryabhata, known as the Indian Scientific Satellite before launch. It was built by the Indian HAL aerospace company in collaboration with the Soviet KB Yuzhnoe and launched by the Soviet Union from its GTsP-4 cosmodrome at Kapustin Yar.
