TDRS-7

 1995-035B


TDRS G was carried into orbit aboard Discovery on the first flight with an uprated Block I SSME engine. It was deployed on the first day of the mission. TDRS G was the last of the IUS launched, TRW built satellites.

In May 1995, TDRS 1 was at 85E and being operated via the Canberra DSN station to provide service for GRO. It was due to be replaced by TDRS-3 and be sent to 139W for South Pole relay work. The prime spacecraft were TDRS WEST (TDRS 5) at 174 W and TDRS EAST (TDRS 4) at 41W. TDRS SPARE (TDRS 6) ws the on orbit reserve satellite at 46W. TDRS G was scheduled to go to 171W as a western spare.
