CNES-DGA/ASI Ka-band Athena secure military comms Spacebus 4000B2. Geostationary platform with 2-3 Gb/s data rate at 25E for France, Italy coverage.
ATHENA (Access on THeatres for European allied forces NAtions) - FIDUS (French Italian Dual Use Satellite). The system will complement highly secure systems like Syracuse with high data rate but less jam-proof channels.
Ka-band broadband comms for French and Italian mil and civil government comms. The program is managed by CNES and ASI; Telespazio is the operator, Thales Alenia the contractor.
Launch mass 3080 kg. Size 2.86 x 1.8 x 3.0m.
