2002-040B
MSG 1 was the first Meteosat Second Generation satellite. The ESA/EUMETSAT satellite is the first of three. Prime contractor is Alcatel/Cannes; Astrium?(Matra)/Velizy builds the imagers. The MSG returns images in 12 bands every 15 min, compared to a 3-band image every 30 min for earlier satellites.
Size is 3.2d 2.4l cylinder. Launch mass 2010 kg, BOL/dry 1000 kg. Spin stabilized at 100 rpm. MSG is below the Sylda 5. MSG has two DASA S400 400N LAM engines using MMH/MON-1.
Initially to M-standby at 10W, then to primary at 0W.
In late 2002 a power amp failure meant that the high data rate processed image redistribution system was shut down. The satellite was related to 9E in Apr 2008.
