The final Transit Improvement Program satellite, TIP 3, suffered solar panel problems but was partially successful in its mission. Its orbit was raised between launch and Jan 1977 and then it was left to decay from its elliptical 450 x 868 km orbit.

The IUS burns were at 2209 on Mar 13 and 0324 on Mar 14, and a drift adjustment was made at 0700 on Mar 15. By 1989 Jun 10 TDRS 4 was on station replacing TDRS 1 as the TDRS EAST satellite at 41W.

Himawari 4
1989-070A
GMS 4 (Himawari 4) was launched by H-I from Tanageshima. Mass was 325 kg BOL after adapter separation. 3.4 high, 2.2 dia. Launch mass around 725 kg, AKM propellant 338 kg and hydrazine capacity 41 kg.
Stage 2 was intended to be marginally suborbital with an expected splash down at 1S 143W. GMS 4 was lighter than other H-I payloads and the launch vehicle had only 6 strapon boosters instead of the usual 9.
