Asiasat 2

 1995-064A

The Asiasat 2 satellite was launched in Nov 1995 by a CZ-2E. This marked the first successful use of the Chinese-built solid EPKM perigee stage to insert a satellite into geostationary transfer orbit. The EPKM stage uses the solid SPTM-17 motor; it was fired on the second southbound equator crossing. The launch was rougher than expected and the antenna feed horns seem to have been knocked out of alignment, reducing the amount of the signal reaching the ground. This caused Hong Kong's Star TV to cancel its lease of three Ku-band transponders.

In 2009 Sep, the satellite was acquired by Amos-Spacecom and renamed Amos 5i. It was relocated to 17E. However, a year later it was discovered that the satellite had less propellant remaining than previously believed, limiting its life. It left the 17E slot in Sep 2011 and was moved to 120E for a while before being retired in mid 2012.
