Sirius 3

The first Digital Audio Radio Satellite for CD Radio of Washington D.C was built by SS-Loral using the FS-1300 bus. DARS 2 and 3 will also be similar. The satellites will provide high-quality digital radio broadcasts to automobiles in the US.

Launch mass 3800 kg; 1570 kg dry.

In 1998 the decision was made to move the satellites to highly elliptical orbits of 24000 x 47000 km. The 24-hour period orbit inclined at 63 deg had apogee over N America.
