The Mars Pathfinder Lander was renamed Sagan Memorial Station on 1997 Jul 5. The Microrover flight experiment (MFEX) was named Sojourner after human rights activist Sojourner Truth (b. Isabella), 1797-1883. Contact was lost in late Sep 1997, although a brief beacon signal was received Oct 7. Controllers gave up on recontacting the vehicle in early November.
